Mr or Miss Clean

So I was talking to a friend the other day. She seemed a bit down since she just broke up with her boyfriend. Conversation went something like so:

Me: How are you feeling?
Her: Ok I guess.
Me: Yea.. Break ups suck...
Her: Yea.. I shouldn't have wasted time on him
Me: Happens..
Her: Well.. at least I'm still clean..

Clean.. Hmm.. Nothing sexually 'drastic' happened between the two of them, and so she thinks of it as clean.

The word bothered me since this is an outlook a lot of Indian girls or girls in general have. If I have not done a certain things, I am clean... Are girls supposed to take pride if they are? What about those that do take 'drastic measures' and 'taint' themselves? Is 'tainted' the word to use to describe these type of girls now?

What are the mens's perspectives? Are girls looked at as clean or dirty depending on their past actions? What is the line between being clean and being dirty? Is this even a fair question to ask in the first place? I think not.. But obviously, my fellow friend and many others do seem to give a lot of unsignificant importance to staying a certain way.

Why this discrimination against Surf and other brands?

I dont think there should different moral standards for girls and guys. And again Indian moralality is bizarre. we are ok with paying bribes and corruption, but not ok with pre-marital sex.

Bribes and pre-marital sex are two completely different things when it comes to morality. "Clean" doesn't have to be a related to a guy or a girl or rather can be used for both.

Moral standards should be same for both guys and girls. However, most Indians (and other races as well) I know lack moral standards and they take pride in it. Indian culture has duality and thats one thing that sucks about Indian culture the most. I rather not get started or I'll be typing forever :)

No discrimination against cleaning products...

The "clean" convo that I had with my friend reminded me of the Nirma commercial - "dudh ki safedi.. nirma se aayi..." :P

"we are ok with paying bribes and corruption, but not ok with pre-marital sex"

those two things really can't be compared.. but then again looking at some of the indian customs most of them don't make sense.

sp4rt4n029 and durkhaima,
I know, you cant compare them, I was just trying to provoke a debate ;)

cleanliness...is it just an entity representing one's physical purity or mental purity?

i don know if u can ask ur frnd this...ask her if she had fantacised herself wid her boyfrnd? u know wat i mean....

people do talk abt purity in many senses...one of my frndz told me once tht if he hadnt done THT FINAl thing..then he/she is clean...i have no idea...wat cleanliness is...

it is very much BINARY dependent on mental states...either u r pure or not

someone cud b physically pure..but mentally a sex-moron or a bitch...

whr do they fit in?

to me personally..if u had been involved in a relationship n had some physical activity outta pure love when u don have anymore words 2 express ur love wid ur partner..then its fine...but if its jez lust...then it SUCKS big time

dang prabhu, if only our community openly accepted that... cuz collectively all physical activity is attributed to lust and rarely to love.
